Portfolio
Below you’ll find examples of the online training courses and platforms that LockeLearning has developed for previous clients.
Courses
Data Journalism Essentials
Client: RFE/RL
Role: Project management, course development, and e-learning consultation
This course (developed for RFE/RL Academy, the internal training division of RFE/RL) trained RFE/RL journalists in the principles of data journalism – i.e. developing news stories from data.
LockeLearning coordinated with both the internal team at RFE/RL and the external subject matter expert and writer (the excellent Eveline Parrou, founder of Parabole Studio).
LockeLearning also created additional visual assets where required, assisted in editing training videos, and provided in-depth text editing services.

Editorial Standards Booster 2024
Client: RFE/RL
Role: Project management, course development, and e-learning consultation
This is the flagship training course for RFE/RL Academy, helping over 700 international journalists to gain a deeper understanding of the principles of ethical journalism.
I managed this project from start to finish, ensuring delivery of a complete training course in two languages (English and Russian).
I worked directly with the heads of the Editorial Standards department at RFE/RL (the amazing Charles Recknagel and Irina Lagunina) to edit and shape this course to achieve their vision.
Many thanks to Kate Hoyland and Rosie Bartlett at Quattrain for their fantastic work in writing this course!

Scam Prevention Course For Seniors
Client: Savvy Seniors Club
Role: Course development and e-learning consultation
This course helps senior citizens to learn about and avoid common online scams.
On this project I worked closely with founder Jan Bas, guiding Savvy Seniors Club through its first foray into online learning.
As well as planning and developing the course, I also provided general consultation and guidance in launching and marketing an online course.

Other Journalism Training Courses
Client: RFE/RL
Role: Project management, course development, and e-learning consultation
In addition to the journalism training courses shown above, LockeLearning produced many others!
Unfortunately, due to the nature of the work RFE/RL that does, these cannot be shared publicly. Amongst them were courses on:
Social Media Strategy
Podcasting Essentials
Research and Profiling Tools for the Newsroom
Verification and Geolocation Tools for the Newsroom
Newswriting
Learning Games
Editorial Standards Training Scenario
Client: RFE/RL
Role: Project management, course development, and e-learning consultation
For the Editorial Standards Booster course, RFE/RL requested an additional scenario-based game in which learners would make difficult decisions about a news story within a strict deadline.
This project was built in Storyline 360. I developed it during a week-long visit to the RFE/RL newsroom in Prague, working in close coordination with Charles Recknagel and Irina Lagunina, the heads of the Editorial Standards department at RFE/RL.

Camera Skills Training Game
Client: LockeLearning
Role: Game planning and development, photography
Photography has always been an important part of my work! I’ve often taken photos for clients to include in courses that I build.
I created this training game to teach beginner photographers how to use their camera settings (shutter speed, aperture, and ISO) to take great photos!
The game gives players three photographic assignments, each focusing on a particular camera setting. Each assignment gives a real-world example of how these settings change the look of a photo.
The game was developed in Storyline, with additional functionality added using custom JavaScript. And, of course, each photo assignment was developed using photos taken by me!

Other Services
LMS Management
Client: RFE/RL, Globethics, and others
Role: LMS setup, administration, consultation, and data dashboarding
In addition to creating learning content, LockeLearning also provides LMS administration and consultation services.
Amongst other things, this work involves LMS setup and admin, designing the technical specifications for course uploads into the LMS, data reporting (including custom Power BI data dashboards), and ensuring cross-language parity for multilingual projects.
Platforms used include TalentLMS, Moodle, LearnDash, LearnWorlds, and Cornerstone.
Technical & Educational Writing
Client: RFE/RL, Globethics
Role: Content development, technical documentation, and process development
In addition to course creation, LockeLearning provides non-course-based training material and technical documentation.
For example, I developed and maintained all of the English-language content on the RFE/RL Academy website for the first three years of the project. This started with a three-month-long project to create a long-term reference resource for journalists.
And for Globethics, I created technical processes for instructional design and development in Moodle, and published guides for teachers enabling them to create learning content.
